Establishing a Point of Expansion

A Tree Is a Screen | Unlike architecture, a tree begins as a seed, it's lifespan an continuous state of growth.  I began to imagine how a tree farm might gradually overcome the landscape within the site;  once an urban sprawl, all of a sudden a forest landscape.

This progression can be imagined as layers, each layer an step toward the evolution of the site.

While I have already established a module,  I began to explore how to treat the module in relation to site.  Simply based on a customizeable core, form began to be incredibly open to interpretation.  precedent for how to incorporate a modular design

The Tree Farm: Reuse, Redevelopment & Community

This region of the East Side tends to be largely isolated from the surrounded city.  Crime ratings are high, urban density is low, thus clearly a not an area to establish new business.  The only significant community organizations I could find were churches, of which there are many, most of them I've never heard of.  

      

As a result, population growth is limited, specifically in Indian Village, whereas the rest of the area continues to decline.  The lack of community spaces make sense; cleanup costs are overwhelming, the eroding municipal and residential state of the area perpetuate the cycle.  

COMMUNITY

While that seems fairly dismal, it offers the opportunity to pinpoint the locations for potential community development.  It might be possible to determine and isolate specific areas with higher urban densities, a micromanagement approach to redevelopment.  

Eastern Market, near to the site is a prime example of how one might create a social center, the establishment of a community node.  While it's far off, It might be possible to explore the ways that the tree farm associates with eastern market, how that might motivate community engagement, etc.

Exploring Opportunities of Salvage on site

No need to create site analysis diagrams for Detroit, EVER

So I started looking at connections between the site and the surrounding city with hopes of finding some community connections to start from.  I remembered Christian talking about Data Driven Detroit, as well as his comment about site analysis diagrams of Detroit being a thing of the past as a result.   So, I checked it out. IT HAS ANY STATISTICAL INFORMATION YOU NEED, as long as you look around a bit.  Anyway, these are things I've been looking at, just an example of some of the things you can find.  Cheers
